For the second year I designed and ran a Steam Extravaganza day for students and teachers at our school.
The goals were:
- Encourage students to follow an interest
- Develop student leadership
- Showcase resources we have available at school
- Ignite student and teacher interest
During the lead-up to theSteam day I mentored a number of students as they developed a workshop for groups of their peers. The studnets helped develop their own criteria for their workshops and presentations.
The structure consisted of a introductory keynote from an outside presenter, students then attended either two 30 minute or one 60 minute workshop of their choice. We had a number of workshops for the students attending to choose from. These consisted of:
mBot robotics
Kitchen science
Dry ice experiences
Self portraits with Google presentations
Building with Strawbees
Lego and Flexo lego building
Ollie robotics
Building with Minecraft
Launching rockets
Introduction to electronic circuits
Getting good at using Google presentations
Codemaster board game
