Normalising Te Reo Maori in our classroom

I am exploring further developing normalisation of Te reo Maori in the classroom through the use of Akinga, karakia Maori and Inoi. With help from Drew from the Maori Achievement Collaborative I have begun to integrate more Te Reo into the classroom. My key driver is to make sure I enable the students to know that speaking Te Reo is natural and part of our ongoing commitment to the treaty of Waitangi.

Along with the prayers, I have started using a broader range of commands. We already used many in the classroom but have now begun to branch out into the less well known ones, and a few phrases as well. The prayer monitors each week are responsible for choosing and teaching a phrase each week.
