Lockdown #2

By using the feedback from students and our community after the first national lockdown we have been able to better meet the needs of our students. We have streamlined our communication, our year level team are planning more collaboratively and the resources we are choosing to use and share are now proven to be effective.

After the first national lockdown in 2020 my school undertook a review which involved interviewing and surveying the community and students. From this we made a plan to be prepared for any future lockdowns. This included getting all of the learning platforms and information for home learning in one place.  Because we prepared well in advance we were able to have some tasks and online learning already set up for our students. This gave us some breathing space when we first  went into lockdown.

Our one-stop place for all learning resources during Lockdown learning.

Once we started teaching online we purposefully planned and presented learning tasks collaboratively, this meant we were able to support each other and all of our students were receiving similar learning opportunities. We purposefully had a daily routine which made it easier for students to access, keeping it the same each day meant after two days all students were accessing and engaging in both online video meets and learning tasks.

Because I know my studnets and their families I now who needs a bit more support. I have bene able focus on these students and have made sure to have more regular contact, sometimes multiple times a day.

This reading has also helped shape my online learning environment, by pivoting off what has worked previously I can continue to offer the best possible experience for my students and their whanau.

During lockdown I have delivered a few school-owned devices to students whose device has stopped working and even threw a soccer ball over a fence to a student who complained his ball had gone flat. His mum commented that he was, "really happy."
